BEHIND THE SCENES
Recording Day
On January 11th, 2025 a community came together to create the audio docudrama series, LEAD, inspired by the true story of one child, his mysterious lead poisoning and his Mother’s unwavering fight to keep him safe.

Statement
LEAD is a true story performed in the theatrical style of a narrative drama with humor and a ‘lean in’ intimacy. Brought to life by an extraordinary cast through direct address, flashback scenes and detailed realistic foley recorded in my Tribeca apartment, the listener is transported into the daily life and high stakes reality of a family with a sick child searching for answers.
This SAG micropodcast budget was funded by me with the money I have made from my job as a NICU nurse at NYP, where I specialize in lactation. By teaching myself pro-tools, Goldcrest donating studio time, sound engineer and composer donating their time and talent, and having an Emmy award winning Sound Mixer husband, the budget remains under $10,000 – that’s 20 nursing shifts~and a small fraction of a typical top notch performing/recording/editing budget.
Our primary goal in sharing our story is to get The Lead Paint Right to Know Act passed for 2025. Senator Breslin calls this the most significant piece of legislation to end childhood lead poisoning in the last 30 years. The Lead Paint Right to Know Act simply ensures a buyer or renter will be provided with the knowledge of whether or not lead is present in the home and where it is located so you can protect yourself and your family.
If The Lead Paint Right to Know Act was in place when the dust infiltrated our apartment, I would have known that the dust had lead in it and my son wouldn’t have gotten sick. People have the right to know if their home is safe.
We will be asking our listeners to please go to www.endleadpoisoning.org to learn more on how to send a message to their representative urging them to Support The Lead Paint Right to Know Act.
Each year, in 2023 and 2024, over 5,000 children were diagnosed with elevated lead levels in New York City alone. Unicef reports that 800 million children world-wide are lead poisoned.~Lead is Deadly and Easily Corrected~Don’t Let the Dust Settle.
